About the Client

A fully remote consultancy at the intersection of energy and ocean tech.

This is a Year-3 strategy and business development consultancy operating across Atlantic Canada and European markets, focused on the renewable energy and ocean technology sectors. The team is small (five full-time staff plus contractors), fully remote, and growing fast. They work on market entry, business development, and commercial strategy for technical service companies looking to expand into sustainable business opportunities.

The Managing Director travels frequently and runs a meeting-heavy schedule. This Specialist role exists to drive commercial outcomes — build and own pipeline development, surface high-value targets, and bring a sector-fluent perspective to the firm's growth.

Role Overview

Pipeline ownership, not pipeline support.

This is a senior hybrid role weighted roughly 60% lead generation and BD, 40% high-leverage admin and commercial support. Where an Operator-tier hire executes against a research playbook, this role helps shape the playbook itself.

You will own the prospect pipeline, build BD strategy with the Managing Director, and contribute commercial judgment to which targets are worth pursuing and why. AI fluency is a strong asset for this role — the more you can use AI tools to compound your research, outreach, and operational capacity, the more leverage you bring to the team. Hands-on builders are especially valued, but applied users who know how to get the most out of existing tools are welcome too.

You will function as an embedded teammate — joining daily 15-minute team huddles, participating in company communications, and acting like a senior member of the firm.

Key Responsibilities

What you'll own.

  • Pipeline Strategy
    Shape the BD playbook
    Work directly with the Managing Director to refine ideal customer profiles, target sectors, and outreach methodology. Bring sector fluency to bear on which prospects are worth chasing.
  • Lead Research
    Build a high-signal pipeline
    Research prospective clients, partners, and stakeholders. Build and maintain structured prospect lists in the CRM with deep enrichment — company profiles, sector relevance, decision-maker mapping.
  • AI & Automation
    Build leverage with AI
    Use AI tools to compound the team's research, outreach, and operational capacity. Build custom GPTs and automations from scratch, or apply existing tools skillfully to scale your output.
  • Outreach Execution
    Run BD campaigns
    Support outbound outreach end to end — drafting sequences, tracking responses, managing follow-up cadences. Help prepare conference and trade show hit lists with full briefing notes.
  • Industry Intelligence
    Be the firm's antenna
    Monitor renewable energy and ocean tech industry news, association announcements, regulatory shifts, and event listings. Surface what matters with commentary on why.
  • Senior Admin Support
    Extend the principal's capacity
    Provide high-leverage admin support: calendar and travel coordination, document preparation, briefing notes, correspondence tracking. Anticipate needs across a meeting-heavy schedule.
Essentials

Who we're looking for.

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in lead generation, BD coordination, sales support, or commercial operations in a professional services or B2B context.
  • Sector fluency in renewable energy, ocean technology, or clean infrastructure — you can read industry news and immediately know who's doing what, who funds whom, and where the opportunity is.
  • AI fluency. Comfortable using AI tools to scale your work — whether that's building custom GPTs and automations, or applying existing tools (ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity) skillfully to research and analysis.
  • Strong commercial judgment. You know when to deprioritize, when to chase, and when to flag something to the principal.
  • Excellent written communication. Senior-level emails, briefings, and outreach copy with no hand-holding required.
  • Self-directed. You operate well in a small remote team with minimal oversight. You bring solutions, not problems.
  • Proactive but reserved working style. Calm, anticipatory energy. You set the table before someone asks you to.
What sets candidates apart

Bonus credit.

  • Technical background or education in engineering, environmental science, or a related field.
  • Experience working with or inside European markets, particularly clean energy, marine tech, or government-funded innovation programs.
  • Hands-on experience with Monday.com, HubSpot, or comparable CRM/PM platforms.
  • Prior remote work experience inside a fast-moving, founder-led team.
  • A portfolio of AI builds (custom GPTs, automations, agents) you can walk through on a call.
Compensation

What you'll earn.

Base pay scales with the hours your client commits to. All Specialist engagements include a monthly $100 incentive that can be applied to fee adjustments, tools, wifi, courses, or other professional development.
