Junior Full Stack Developer
Your first USD-paying engineering seat — inside a healthcare-tech startup where the work actually lands somewhere that matters.
A healthcare technology company building software that actually serves people.
The client is a venture-backed community care SaaS company serving addiction recovery centers, foster care agencies, sober living homes, drug court programs, and youth treatment centers. Their platform replaces paper files, document storage, and legacy systems with one personalized place for client management, outcome tracking, and engagement — built specifically for organizations who carry people through some of the hardest stages of their lives.
This is a lean, founder-led team in build mode. The platform is already in market and the engineering lead can no longer carry the load alone — that is the seat we are filling.
Full client details — including company name, leadership, and product walkthrough — are shared on the introductory call for shortlisted candidates.
Day-one ownership across the stack.
You will join the core engineering team as the second engineer, working directly with the COO and Engineering Lead. You will own real portions of the codebase — backend, frontend, AI integrations — and be expected to ship from week one without daily direction.
The engagement opens at 20 hours per week and steps up to 40 hours per week after a successful three-month trial. The work is 100% remote with Eastern Time overlap. English is the working language; French is helpful but not required.
Real surface area, real stakes.
- Feature development across the web and mobile platform — including AI-powered reporting, voice-to-text workflows, and agentic automation.
- Backend refactoring and database schema work to eliminate technical debt and keep the system stable as it scales.
- QA automation, test coverage, and CI/CD improvements so every deployment is safe to ship.
- Security hardening and observability setup — error tracking, structured logging, uptime monitoring — ahead of a HIPAA/SOC2 compliance audit.
- Clear feature specs and technical documentation that enable AI-assisted development and fast onboarding for whoever comes next.
The traits that matter.
-
StackComfortable across the full stackTwo to three years building software with Node.js, React (or React Native), and a NoSQL database like MongoDB. You can move between backend and frontend without losing the thread. Production experience preferred, but solid project work counts.
-
HungerYou're ready to ship without a safety netYou may not have years of startup time on your CV yet, but you've shipped projects you owned end to end. You're not waiting for permission to figure things out.
-
OwnershipYou run the work yourselfYou can take a problem, define an approach, and execute without daily direction. You flag blockers early and keep the team in the loop without being asked.
-
AI in the LoopAI tools are part of your workflowYou actively use Claude, Cursor, Copilot or similar in your day-to-day. You treat AI as a force multiplier on real engineering work — not a novelty, and not a substitute for understanding the code.
-
CraftYou write code that survives youREST API design, schema design, clean layered architecture — you care about readable, maintainable code, not just code that works today.
-
MissionThe work matters to youThe platform serves people in recovery, youth in foster care, and communities navigating addiction. You want your engineering hours to land somewhere that counts.
Strong assets.
- Experience with healthcare or human-services software, or familiarity with HIPAA/SOC2 compliance requirements.
- Experience with LLM API integrations (Anthropic, OpenAI) and building AI-powered product features.
- Familiarity with React Native for mobile development.
- Experience setting up automated testing, CI/CD, and production monitoring (Sentry, Datadog, CloudWatch).
What you'll earn.
Operator-tier compensation paid in USD. Base pay scales with your weekly engagement. Every engagement includes a $75 monthly add-on covering tier incentive and standing transfer-fee adjustment — applied on top of base.
